A woman was killed in a vehicle crash near Lake Moeraki this morning.
The crash was reported shortly after 10am.
The Fox Glacier Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to the crash site on State highway 6 near Mimi Creek, at the eastern end of Lake Moeraki, but was turned back when it became clear there was nothing that could be done fire chief John Sullivan said.
Police said a male passenger in the vehicle was not seriously injured and had been taken south to Haast late this morning.
"At this stage it is believed to be a single vehicle crash, but due to the remote location of the incident all other details are yet to be confirmed and a serious crash investigation is under way," Tasman police media spokeswoman Barbara Dunn said.
