Woman killed in Blenheim crash named

A woman who died after being hit by a car as she crossed a road after church has been named as Kathleen Moira Gibbons, 83, of Blenheim.

She was hit on a pedestrian crossing outside St Mary's Church in Blenheim at 8.15pm last Thursday and died in Wairau Hospital that night.

Blenheim police have not decided if the driver of the car involved will face charges.

The elderly man driving the Honda Integra was hospitalised with a heart complaint last Thursday, but was discharged on Friday.

Detective Richard Rolton of Blenheim police said they had spoken to the man.

"We're waiting on the serious crash report and it could be several months before we know whether charges are warranted."

Mr Rolton said a lack of witnesses to the accident made it a difficult case for police to resolve.
