The person hit and killed by a train in Christchurch this morning has been confirmed by police as a female.
The name of the deceased, a Christchurch woman aged in her 40s, is expected to be released tomorrow, after next of kin have been notified.
Investigators have also now confirmed that the incident occurred at around 4.50am between Denton Park and Kyle Park, just north of the Hornby shopping complex.
It was called in to police at 9.40am by a member of the public.
Investigators say at this stage there is no indication of foul play, but enquiries are continuing to determine the circumstances of the incident.
