A 27-year-old Chinese woman is dead after her Mitsubishi Mirage failed to take a bend near Tokomaru and crashed into a wooden fence strainer.
The accident took place shortly after 8.00pm last night on State Highway 57, in an area known as Makerua about 2 km north of the the intersection with State Highway 56.
Police say the deceased - a female of Chinese nationality - was driving north towards Palmerston North in 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage, coloured silver.
The driver failed to negotiate a moderate right hand bend in the road, crossed the centre line and impacted with a wooden fence strainer.
The female driver was the only occupant in the vehicle and died at the scene as a result of her injuries.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
