A South Auckland woman who forced her 14-year-old nephew eat his own vomit was jailed today.
Shandi Barlow, 43, was sentenced in Hamilton District Court today to three years and nine months.
She earlier admitted three charges of assault with a weapon, two of assault, and one each of injuring with intent, wilful ill-treatment of a young person, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The court was told Barlow made the nephew drink his own urine, blood and vomit after he abused another family member.
Defence lawyer James Faleauto said Barlow lost control because she was suffering from the stress of looking after 14 people -- including her own six children, a diabetic brother and the brother's wife and children.
