KEY POINTS:
A young woman driver who killed a 15-year-old girl in a drunken hit-and-run at Matata in the Eastern Bay of Plenty last August was jailed today for two years and four months.
Karma Jasmine McIvor, 23, wept throughout a lengthy sentencing before Judge Ian Thomas in Tauranga District Court.
The public gallery was filled to overflowing with whanau of the dead girl Stevie-Rae Marks, two other schoolgirls injured in the late night tragedy, and family and supporters of McIvor.
At a trial call-over in March, six months after her arrest, McIvor changed her pleas to guilty on charges of drink driving causing death, two counts of causing injuring and one of failing to stop to ascertain injury.
