A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being dragged from a burning flat in Christchurch overnight.
The fire service was called by neighbours of the London St, Lyttelton, property about 12.30am.
Three crews responded and dragged the woman from the burning flat above a cafe.
The fire service said there was one smoke alarm in the flat but it was not working.
The blaze was not thought to be suspicious but fire safety officers were returning to the scene this morning to make an assessment.
