A woman was injured this morning when the car she was in swerved to miss a dog and ended up in a river bed.
The young woman, a passenger in the vehicle, suffered a broken leg and abdominal pain after she was thrown from the car on a road near Takapau, south of Waipukurau in the Hawke's Bay.
The Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter, called to the crash, said it appeared the driver had swerved to miss a dog on the road when he lost control ending up in a river bed.
The woman was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital.
