The woman who was trapped under a vehicle in Leigh this morning had been trying to stop it rolling down a bank.
The Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokeswoman said the woman had been working on a ute, with another person, when it started to move.
She said the woman tried to get into the front driver's seat to stop the ute.
"But instead she fell underneath it and was pinned as it rolled down a bank, colliding with a tree at the bottom."
Fire crew who were called to the scene at around 10:30 used airbags to lift the ute off the woman and freed her approximately half an hour later.
