A woman who was rescued more than six hours after falling down a 20 metre bank on Saturday is now in a stable condition.
The 55-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after falling down the bank on Motiti Island, off the Bay of Plenty coast.
Police were first alerted about 2.35am Saturday morning and St John Ambulance and Fire and Emergency New Zealand were also notified.
A spokesman from the Tauranga-based TrustPower TECT Rescue Helicopter, who attended the incident, said she fell down a 20m bank and had to be retrieved by a fire service rope rescue team.
"She was in good spirits but she was in a bit of a predicament where she couldn't get out of where she was."
