A critically injured woman had to be cut from her car after she drove the wrong way down an expressway and into the path of a logging truck.
It is understood the woman drove down the Waihi Rd offramp onto the Takitimu Drive Expressway in Tauranga about 3.20pm and drove into the path of the empty logging truck about 500m from the offramp.
A couple travelling behind the logging truck said the truck swerved to avoid the oncoming driver but the two vehicles hit.
The truck ended up driving up the median barrier - a 1m high concrete barrier. The truck was left on an severe lean with its front right wheels over the top of the median barrier.
The woman's car was pushed to the other side of the road. She was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut free using the jaws of life.
