An Opotiki woman has been hospitalised with facial injuries after being attacked in her house with a tomahawk on Sunday night.
"It was a very serious assault - the woman's been hit in the back of the head and in the face, and it involved a tomahawk," Detective Brent Andersen of Opotiki police told the Whakatane Beacon.
A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene and appeared in Whakatane District Court yesterday, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
