A woman who rescued a boy being attacked by pig dogs has been honoured by police.
Jeanne Robinson was in her car near Te Aroha when she saw what looked like a dog fight on the side of the road but on closer inspection, she saw it was a group of dogs attacking a 13 year-old boy.
Ms Robinson, wife of former All Black Keith Robinson, stepped between the dogs and bundled the boy into her car.
At a ceremony at Morrinsville's police station yesterday, Mrs Robinson acknowledge the 13 year-old's bravery.
"It was unbelievable how brave he was, even when he was being attacked he yelled to me to wind my window up in my vehicle as the dogs could turn on me.
"It was remarkable how he kept it all together, throughout the ordeal he remained totally cool and calm," Mrs Robinson said.
Inspector Glenn Dunbier said there was no shortage of courage on display that day.
"I feel very privileged to have both of you here today, no-one can prepare themselves for what they will do when confronted by such a situation.
"Many people arriving at that scene would have gone for help or dialled 111 but you chose to intervene directly and it is indeed a privilege to be able to recognise your actions here today," Mr Dunbier said.
Mrs Robinson received a certificate at the ceremony and in a private moment the 13 year-old boy gave her a bunch of flowers.
The boy's mother told police that he is recovering from his injuries that included 100 dog bites.
