A woman suffered facial injuries when she was hit with a beer bottle at a Waikato bar.
The young woman was waiting to take family home from a bar in Te Rapa yesterday when she was hit in the face with the large beer bottle, Detective Sergeant Andrew Mortimore of Hamilton CIB said.
CCTV footage showed a man forcefully throwing a bottle of beer which struck the woman in the face. She suffered significant injuries. She was taken to Waikato Hospital and treated before being discharged.
"This is a sad event whereby an innocent bystander has been badly hurt, caused by what would appear to be a clear example of over indulgence in alcohol," Mr Mortimore said.
"Police want people to enjoy the festive period but to carefully consider how they are drinking." "We encourage people to be aware of family and friends and the effects of alcohol consumption, particularly upon judgement and actions."
