A woman who was hit by a bus in the Auckland suburb of Mt Roskill this morning has died from her injuries.
Police said Patricia Davis, 74, was hit by a Metrolink bus while crossing Stoddard Rd about 11am.
A business owner, who saw the crash, told NZPA the woman had misjudged traffic when crossing the busy road.
"It was a bad call. She just misjudged everything, it was bad timing,'' said the man, who did not wish to be identified.
He did not see the impact but said he heard a loud thud.
"It must have been a big impact. I went out and saw her lying motionless on the road, I thought she was dead. I wanted to help her but to me it looked like she was gone."
Another business owner, Guuled Worfa, said the woman did not respond when ambulance staff tried to talk to her.
"She was an old lady but I couldn't see her face because she was facing down. She was bleeding from the head."
She was taken to Auckland Hospital where she died several hours later.
Part of Stoddard Rd was closed while police conducted a scene examination. It has since reopened.
An Auckland Transport spokeswoman said the bus driver was stood down immediately and offered counselling.
