Police are investigating after a woman gave birth while flying to Auckland from Apia this morning then got off the plane, leaving her baby behind.
An Auckland Airport spokeswoman said it was not known if other passengers and crew on the Pacific Blue flight noticed she was in labour and "the baby was found on the aircraft" after landing.
Police were called when the plane landed shortly before 7am and took both mother and child to hospital. They were reported to be in good health.
Counties Manukau Police said they were investigating whether the child had been abandoned.
