KEY POINTS:
A woman has handed herself in to Henderson police after a five-year-old girl was seriously injured in a hit and run accident in west Auckland yesterday.
Sergeant Stu Kearns of the serious crash unit said the woman was being interviewed and her car was being inspected.
Police were yesterday searching for the driver of a grey or cream BMW which hit the girl in Vodanovich Rd, Te Atatu, west Auckland about 5pm.
The girl was taken to Auckland Hospital with serious injuries. She is in a serious but stable condition.
Police said yesterday that after hitting the girl, the car driver had turned around and returned to the scene. She was then involved in an altercation with passers-by, returned to her vehicle and drove off.
Meanwhile, a 7-year-old boy was taken to the Starship hospital with shoulder injuries after he was hit by a bus on the North Shore.
The accident happened about 4.55pm on Beach Rd by Park Rise in Campbells Bay, Auckland.
Witnesses said Jordyn Lunny, a pupil at Campbells Bay Primary School, ran out in front of the bus while trying to get back to his home on Beach Rd.
One of his neighbours, Melanie Turner, said Jordyn had been at her house five minutes before the accident playing with her 9-year-old daughter Saraya.
"I just heard this almighty crunch, then yelling and screaming."
Last night, Jordyn's father, Brent Lunny, said his son was undergoing x-rays but it looked like he suffered only a broken shoulder.
"He was running across the road to see me. I guess the bus didn't see him - he didn't give the bus much of a chance."
Four people on the bus suffered minor injuries.
