KEY POINTS:
A Bay of Plenty woman has been found not guilty of murder, but guilty of the manslaughter, of her violent husband.
Violet Mahari, 34, stabbed her partner Phillip Te Kata, 49, with a 20cm long kitchen knife at a Papamoa caravan park in the early hours of December 21 last year.
The High Court in Rotorua was told that Mahari snapped after prolonged violent abuse at the hands of Te Kata.
When he threatened to beat her up again she picked up the knife in self-defence but did not intend to kill him, her lawyer Paul Mabey QC told the jury.
Mahari was remanded in custody for sentencing on November 14.
