A Northland mother-of-four was today found guilty of murdering her partner.
A jury of six men and six women took just over four hours to find Rangi Marie Reti, 39, a cleaner from Russell and mother of four, guilty of murdering 27-year-old Anthony Garvey on September 29 last year.
She was also found guilty of wounding Mr Garvey with intent to cause him grievous bolidy harm
Reti was remanded in custody until December 2 for sentencing.
The High Court in Whangarei was told Reti and Mr Garvey had been drinking at a house in Whiteman Road, Kawakawa.
She first stabbed him in the thigh, before later in the day stabbing him in the chest with a steak knife.
Defence lawyer Murray Gibson said Reti and Mr Garvey had loved each other. Reti had never intended to kill him, just hurt him.
He said Reti suffered from post traumatic stress disorder that stemmed from being raped as an eight-year-old.
When Mr Garvey pushed her up against the wall with his hand over her mouth, she released her childhood anger as an adult.
When Reti gave evidence earlier this week, she was unable to hold back the tears as she described the night she had been asleep as a child in bed when the man had come into her room, put his hand over her mouth and lifted her out of bed.
He pushed her up against a window, still with his hand over her mouth and raped her.
Then in September last year when Mr Garvey pushed her against the hallway wall, following an earlier argument when she had stabbed him in the thigh with a knife, she was taken back to her childhood.
"When Anthony had his hand over me I had a flashback. I went back to my past."
