A woman was stabbed to death in Highland Park tonight.
A man described by police as a trespasser arrived at the Aberfeldy Ave property just before 10pm. Neighbours reported hearing yelling and screaming shortly afterwards.
During the argument the woman was stabbed. She died at the scene. The police said the incident was domestic.
Inspector Matt Rogers from the northern communications centre said officers were interviewing witnesses. They were not looking for anyone else.
One neighbour said she saw emergency services arrive at the house and later saw an ambulance drive off.
"I saw lots and lots of police cars pull up and I wondered what was happening, so I went to spy out my window. I couldn't see much but I knew something bad had happened. I knew it was not good."
She said she only saw the family who lived at the Aberfeldy Ave house in passing, but had heard a man had recently moved out of the home.
"I did not go and introduce myself, but I saw them move in. I think it was a nice Indian family."
The neighbour said she was terrified in her own home after hearing of the stabbing.
"I'm just so scared. Normally I don't like even going outside when I don't have to and I always lock all the windows and doors.
"There's a lot of crime around here, my house has been burgled a lot and vandalised. This is a bad neighbourhood. Things happen all the time here. This now makes me very scared to go outside."
The neighbour said that tonight, a small number of people believed to be teenagers, were hanging around the house where the killing occurred.
