A woman who crashed her car on the Coromandel Peninsula last night stepped out of the car and fell down a cliff.
The woman was apparently unhurt in the crash near Tairua but then suffered serious injuries from the fall.
A spokesman for the Waikato-based Westpac Air Ambulance said the 35-year-old woman from Ngatea, near Thames, drove off the road at about midnight and disappeared down a cliff soon afterwards.
Rescuers were not able to reach her until about 4am.
She was flown to Waikato Hospital after being driven to Thames.
