A woman escaped serious injury when her car slid about 50 metres down a bank as she tried to leave her driveway in west Auckland this afternoon.
Steve Robinson of the Te Atatu fire brigade said the woman, thought to be in her 60s, had just started her car on Bridgens Ave when it somehow "lurched'' across the road about 1.50pm.
"Some error has occurred, whether it's human or mechanical,'' Mr Robinson said.
"She ended up careening down the bank until she came to rest on a tree - it was the most unfortunate place she could have landed. It was pretty unlucky really.''
When firefighters arrived on the scene the woman was trapped and they had to remove the back seat to get her out.
