One person is dead and two in hospital after a two-car crash in south Taranaki this afternoon.
Police said the cars, a blue Mazda hatchback and a white Nissan Saloon, collided on State Highway 3, near Waitotara at 12.30 today.
A woman, the driver of the eastbound Nissan, died at the scene. She is yet to be formally identified. Her passenger, a man, was taken by helicopter to Taranaki Base Hospital. He is in a stable condition, with moderate injuries.
The male driver of the westbound Mazda, the sole occupant in the vehicle, was transported to the Whanganui Hospital by ambulance and is in a serious condition.
Whanganui police are investigating, and wish to speak to anyone with information. A scene examination is ongoing.
