A woman has died in a freak accident involving a boom gate in a Gold Coast car park.
The Brisbane Times reported the 61-year-old woman was believed to have died after accidentally accelerating after opening her door to try to get her parking ticket out of a machine at the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre.
Delivery driver Foti Afantenos was one of the first to go the woman's aid and said she had struck her head on the steel ticket machine.
"So she's pushed the boom gate. She was still in the car so obviously the door would have slammed back on her. She's obviously just fell out of her vehicle door, tumbled onto the ground and that's it, she wasn't moving."
There was "blood everywhere" but the woman had a faint pulse. By the time ambulance officers arrived the woman was dead, Afantenos said.
