A 68-year-old woman has died in hospital four days after the car she was travelling left the road and hit fenceposts and trees.
Police believe the woman and her 73-year-old husband were returning to Morrinsville from Hamilton on State Highway 26 when the incident occurred last Wednesday afternoon.
"The vehicle appears to have tracked off the road to the right after negotiating a very gentle right curve," Waikato District road policing manager Inspector Marcus Lynam said.
"The 73-year-old male driver and his 68-year old wife suffered moderate to serious injuries in the crash and were taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance where the woman sadly passed away yesterday."
All motorists making trips these school holidays should plan trips carefully. Allow for plenty of rest breaks and avoid getting distracted while behind the wheel, Mr Lynam said.
