Woman dies, car rolls down driveway in Kelston, West Auckland

Shocked family members have gathered in mourning after a woman died in a car that crashed down a driveway in West Auckland.

The woman's car smashed through half a house, leaving debris strewn all along the deck and part of the driveway, at a property on Aronui Terrace, Kelston, about 3.30pm.

A police officer said it appeared the woman had suffered a medical event and died as a result.

Family members of the woman, understood to be a resident on the street, have started to gather at the family home.

A man, visibly upset, was heard telling someone on the phone: "My mum's passed away, man."

One relative said they had come straight from work after receiving a call about the accident.

At the crash scene, the woman's white car could be seen resting on its roof, at the bottom of the driveway, down a bank.

Nobody at the address was injured.

Dev Solanki, who lives behind the property where the car crashed, said he arrived home within minutes of the accident happening.

"My dad saw a guy without a shirt come out of the house and then we saw the car, which had been flipped.

"The house at the top - their whole balcony is destroyed. The car is stuck in a tree and is flipped."

Dev said he had just been told that the woman involved was the grandmother of one of his friends.

"It's a real shock. It's a pretty sad coincidence."

A man who appears to be linked to the property was seen speaking with officers.

With tears in his eyes, he politely declined to comment when approached.

Several police vehicles and officers are outside the house, where police tape has been put up around the area.

Firefighters, ambulance officers and a tow truck were called to the scene.

Aronui Terrace is blocked off but police said it would not affect traffic.

The police serious crash unit is investigating.
