A woman has died after her car crashed into a horse on a rural road near Christchurch.
Both the 56-year-old woman and the horse died at the scene, on the corner of Birchs Rd and Leadleys Rd, just north of Lincoln, last night.
The woman was travelling between Prebbleton and Lincoln when the crash occurred at 9.45pm, police said.
The horse had been in the middle of the lane, and police have not yet established where it came from. They have appealed for the owner to come forward to Rolleston police if they discover it missing.
It is described as a brown gelding with a white star on its forehead, and approximately 15-16 hands high.
