KEY POINTS:
A woman is dead after her car collided with a truck near Kinleith this afternoon.
Inspector Ian Brooker said witnesses told police the car the woman was driving crossed the centre line before it collided with the truck on State Highway 1, about 3km south of Kinleith, 7km south of Tokoroa.
The truck, which was carrying river stone, caught fire but was extinguished.
The driver was not reported to be injured, Mr Brooker said.
The highway had been closed and was not expected to reopen until at least 6pm. Diversions were in place, he said.
Police were investigating the crash.
