KEY POINTS:
A woman is dead and two men have been injured, one seriously, after a car crashed into a tree in Auckland this morning.
The accident happened about 3.30am on Terry Street in Blockhouse Bay this morning.
Inspector Ian Brooker of police northern communications said witnesses believed the car was speeding before it left the road and struck the tree.
The dead woman is thought to have been the driver of the car.
Police Serious Crash Unit investigators were at the scene, which was expected to be closed to through traffic until after daylight.
