A young woman is dead after a head-on crash north of Wellington yesterday.
The collision happened on State Highway 1, north of the Otaihanga intersection, about 10:30am.
Kapiti Mana area commander Inspector John Spence said it appeared the woman travelling in the northbound lane crossed the centre line and collided with a vehicle travelling south.
The woman, whose name will be released once her next of kin have been advised, died at the scene while a man was also injured. He was airlifted to Wellington Hospital where he was in a stable condition.
The police serious crash unit is investigating.
