Woman critical after Hawke's Bay crash

A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after her car collided with a truck carrying a 21 tonne container in Hawke's Bay.

Witnesses saw the BMW turn right off Richmond Road at the intersection of Pakowhai Road in Hastings, where it was struck on the driver's side.

Several members of the public braved the elements to assist those trapped in the car until emergency services arrived.

The female driver's been taken to Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital where she's on life support.

Her male passenger is unhurt.

The truck driver received minor injuries.

Anyone else who witnessed the crash which happened around 12.35 this afternoon is urged to contact police.
