A 21-year-old woman is in a critical condition after a speeding car hit her on the footpath and drove off in Mt Roskill, Auckland last night.
Police said the dark-coloured four-door sedan was seen speeding along Richardson Road before colliding with a rubbish bin and hitting the woman on thefootpath around 5.45pm.
The woman was thrown several metres, and suffered serious head injuries.
Police said the speeding vehicle did not stop, and is believed to have turned on to Rosamund Avenue before disappearing from sight.
The victim is now in hospital and her condition is described as critical.
Police are appealing for anyone in the area at the time who may have seen a dark-coloured sedan driving at speed or erratically to contact Detective Victoria Williams on 09 820 5760 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
The vehicle responsible may have sustained damage to its front or bonnet area.
