A Napier woman was yesterday convicted for interfering with a grave after digging up her son's urn from Mangaroa Cemetery.
In Napier District Court, Lynette Robyn Hyde admitted to digging her son's remains up on Christmas Day last year and said she had wanted to be with him.
The Dominion Post said Hyde removed the urn and refilled the grave but her former husband and his family later visited the site and found it had been interfered with.
Police were informed and found the urn at Hyde's home after executing a search warrant there.
The court was told there had been a dispute between Hyde and her former husband over where the ashes should be buried.
Judge Philip Connell remanded Hyde until August 1 for sentence, advising her there would be leniency if she undertook counselling.
