A woman who came upon a fatal road accident in west Auckland yesterday discovered the dead man was her partner.
Blair Titmus, 35, died after his motorcycle crashed with a right-turning car on Hobsonville Rd and he was run over by another vehicle, Senior Constable Karl Bevan of the police serious crash unit said.
He died at the scene.
Sergeant Mars Dempster said as police were busy clearing the road and examining the scene, the man's partner approached them and asked what was going on.
"She had been trying to ring him but couldn't get through so she came to look for him - they live very, very close by.
"She asked to see him and we allowed her to do that, poor girl."
Police arranged for her family to come and take her home after she had some time with her partner.
Ms Dempster said the crash was "a horrible, sad accident, which could have happened to anyone."
The serious crash unit investigation was investigating.
This afternoon two people were seriously injured after the motorcycle they were riding and a car collided west of Nelson.
