KEY POINTS:
A cake shop worker - tied up at gunpoint during a robbery - managed to free herself and chase her assailant, in what police have described as "an extremely terrifying experience" on Friday.
Manukau Police said a man armed with a pistol entered The Cheese Cake Shop on East Tamaki Road, Papatoetoe, about 6.10pm.
He demanded money from two female staff members and, after receiving cash, tied them up.
However, one of the women managed to free herself and grabbed the gun from the man, who then ran from the shop.
The woman chased him behind the shop through an access way and yelled out for help from bystanders, but was not given any aid, so continued to chase him to his car in a carpark on Charles Street.
The man got into the red Toyota Corolla station wagon and the woman attempted to smash its window with the pistol, but the offender drove away, police said.
Any one with information on the incident should Manukau Police station on 2950200.
