A 42-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a Hawke's Bay woman during a home invasion this morning.
Napier CIB Detective John McGregor said the woman was arrested this morning and appeared in Napier District Court charged with attempted murder and wounding with intent.
The 53-year-old victim is recovering in hospital after suffering stab wounds and a broken jaw during the home invasion yesterday.
The woman called 111 at 4.40am from her Napier home after the attack.
The woman had several stab wounds in her arms, hands and face, a deflated lung and a fractured jaw.
She told police the house she shared with her 91-year-old father had been broken into but was unable to give a description of her attacker.
The woman's father is now being cared for by family.
A specialist forensic team from Wellington is expected to arrive today to conduct more investigations.
Mr McGregor said the arrested woman was known to the victim.
The woman has been remanded in custody until her next court appearance on Wednesday.
