A woman charged over a crash that killed a 17-year-old passenger in another car has made a brief appearance in court.
Amanda Catherine Lowery, 42, appeared in the Hamilton District Court this morning charged with excess blood alcohol and aggravated careless driving causing death.
The unemployed Hamilton woman also faces three charges of excess blood alcohol causing injury and three counts of aggravated careless driving causing injury.
The charges relate to a crash on State Highway 23 at Whatawhata, between Hamilton and Raglan about 10pm on February 14 when Lowery's car collided with an oncoming Suzuki Swift.
Police allege Lowery's car was on the wrong side of the road and that her blood alcohol reading was 190 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood - twice the limit of 80 milligrams.
