KEY POINTS:
A 30-year-old woman charged over the death of an 18-month-old baby was remanded into psychiatric care when she appeared in Whangarei District Court today.
Judge Lindsay Moore continued name suppression, saying the woman's mental health issues justified such an order.
She is charged with abandoning a child under six on or about March 7 and manslaughter.
Lawyer Dave Sayes sought a two week remand for psychiatric reports to be completed.
The woman was remanded to the Mason Clinic and will reappear in court on April 13.
The baby's body was found at Parua Bay near Whangarei earlier this month.
