A Taranaki woman was seriously injured after a gas bottle was set alight as a "party trick".
The 41-year-old was admitted to the intensive care unit with burns to her head and hands at Taranaki Base Hospital after the incident, which happened about 1.50am yesterday.
A 48-year-old man from Rahotu, 46km southwest of New Plymouth, has been arrested and charged with wounding with intent and wilful damage, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
Opunake Constable Daniel Giles said it appeared to be a "party trick that has gone wrong".
Mr Giles said police were told a gas bottle had been set on fire, which caused the woman's injuries.
