KEY POINTS:
A woman who broke her ankle while walking the popular Tongariro Crossing track was flown to hospital this afternoon.
The 52-year-old woman slipped as she tramped between the Red Crater, the highest point on the track, and Emerald Lake this morning.
She was flown by rescue helicopter to Rotorua Hospital for treatment.
