The recession may be still looming over retailers' heads but it seems diamonds are still running out the door.
A woman this afternoon attempted to make a quick get-away from Napier's Michael Hill Jeweller, she had been trying on a $5000 diamond ring, but then attempted to pull a swift one on the staff.
With the ring snuggly wrapped around her finger the woman bolted out the door, with a shop assistant in pursuit behind her.
Others then joined the chase, but when she realised she was unlikely to outrun the group, she dropped the ring.
Police are still looking for the woman.
