Wellington police say they hold grave fears for a Wellington woman believed to have been abducted by a known gang member.
Detective Steve Harwood said police were investigating a series of incidents believed to involve Alistair Michael "Tiny" Osborne, 34, a Black Power gang member.
Osborne is wanted by police in relation to a serious assault that took place earlier this week in the suburb of Johnsonville.
The victim of the alleged assault, Naomi Matangi, suffered head and internal injuries after she was beaten with the butt of a rifle, Mr Harwood said.
Police fear for Ms Matangi's safety as she was reported missing from her home yesterday and is believed to be with Osborne, he said.
Osborne is considered dangerous and is likely to have firearms, Mr Harwood said.
He is believed to be driving a white Subaru Legacy stationwagon, registration WO1564 and to be in the Wellington area.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Anyone with information on either person is asked to contact Wellington police on 04 381-2000.
