KEY POINTS:
A woman was badly burnt and her daughter received less serious injuries in a house fire at Richmond, near Nelson, last night.
Firefighters were called to the blaze about 8.55pm and had it under control within 10 minutes, Richmond Volunteer Fire Brigade chief Ralph Lonsdale said.
A woman in her mid-50s suffered serious burns to her upper body arms and face and was admitted to Nelson Hospital.
Mr Lonsdale said the woman was in a stable condition today and would be transferred to the burns unit. Her daughter suffered minor burns to her back and was treated and discharged.
The Barnicoat Place house was badly damaged, but the fire was accidental and there were no suspicious circumstances, he said.
Nelson firefighters were called out just over an hour later to a house fire in Toitoi St.
One person was treated at hospital for minor smoke inhalation.
