A woman out jogging in Hamilton was attacked after her path was blocked by a van and she was set upon.
The attack occurred around 7.20pm on Wednesday on Grantham Street between the Ferrybank Cafe and the Bridgewater Eye Clinic, police said.
The woman was jogging down Grantham Street on her own when a van blocked her path and one of the occupants attacked her.
She was able to break free and run towards the boat ramp carpark.
Hamilton City CIB Detective Sergeant Andrew Mortimore said police were interested in speaking to anyone in the area at the time, in particular a gentleman who offered assistance to the victim near his vehicle in the boat ramp carpark.
