Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was attacked and robbed in Christchurch on Monday afternoon.
The assault took place at the intersection of Union and Beresford Streets, in the suburb of New Brighton, around 3.30 pm.
Detective Sergeant Chris Power said the woman, aged in her 30s, was robbed of a small bag of cash and her wallet from her handbag in a struggle with the offender as she went to get out of her BMW motor-vehicle.
She was punched twice and suffered concussion, but prevented the offender taking all her cash.
Police are warning businesses in to take care when doing their banking, by varying their banking routines and when possible have at least two staff members involved.
Witnesses to the robbery are asked to contact Detective Sergeant Chris Power by calling 03 363 7400 and asking to be put through to his cellphone.
