A 51-year-old woman has been hospitalised after she was assaulted in Tauranga while sitting at a bus spot in the early hours of today.
She was attacked at 1.45am by a number of people while at a Waitaha Road bus stop in the Tauranga suburb of Welcome Bay. She has been treated for facial injuries, including bruising.
It appeared up to five people were involved in the assault and police were trying to find out exactly what had happened, Detective Alan Kingsbury said.
A 38-year-old Te Puke woman will appear Tauranga District Court today charged with common assault.
