A Hawke's Bay woman was assaulted in front of her child in an unprovoked attack by two men she did not know, police say.
The incident occurred just outside the entrance to the Waterworld Indoor Swimming Pool in Flaxmere about 7pm yesterday.
Hastings police said the woman and her 10-year-old child were about to leave the complex when they were approached by two men.
"These males have opened the driver's door (of the woman's car) and began assaulting the mother in front of her child," a police spokesman said.
"They stopped when another person intervened and they ran off towards Swansea Road."
The mother was shaken but not injured.
The men were described as being in their late teens to early 20s, with dark skin, about 175cm tall and of solid build. One was wearing a grey hoody and the other a dark top.
Anyone with information was asked to contact police.
