KEY POINTS:
Police have charged a Hastings woman with assault following the discovery of a man's body outside a house in suburban Flaxmere yesterday.
Police were called to the address around 4.40pm after reports a man was unconscious but when they and ambulance staff arrived the man was dead.
Hastings CIB said the 22-year-old woman had been charged "in relation to events that occurred at the address prior to police arrival".
Detective Sergeant Dave de Lange said the man's death appeared to be the result of a domestic incident and not the result of gang violence.
He said police had established the man was a visitor to the house but were still working to confirm his identity.
A post mortem will be done today to establish the cause of death.
