A man has been charged with assault after a woman was allegedly stalked and attacked in South Auckland as she walked home from a railway station.
Police today said a 31-year-old man would appear in court next month facing a charge of male assaults female.
The alleged assault happened last Wednesday after a woman claimed she was followed by a man "over a prolonged period of time", including on a train between Britomart and Middlemore Hospital, before she was grabbed from behind in Mangere at about 10.30pm.
She was walking home from Middlemore Station at the time and managed to escape after a short struggle.
He is due to appear in the Manukau District Court on February 9.
