A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash this afternoon south of Otaki.
The Palmerston North rescue helicopter responded after a two-car head-on crash on Te Horo Beach Road around 4:30pm.
The 19-year-old female driver of one of the vehicles was trapped and had to be extracted from the vehicle by the fire brigade.
She was then airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital.
An occupant of the other vehicle was taken to hospital by ambulance with less serious injuries.
